Castlebar Town FC was founded in 1975, Castlebar United, or locally known as Barcastle United. 

Our club has a strong focus on community, diversity, and youth development, operating a comprehensive academy and adult teams. In 2025, the club celebrated its 50th anniversary.

  • Club Focus: Castlebar Town F.C. prides itself on inclusivity, promoting both its academy and adult teams.
  • Establishment: While sometimes referred to as forming in the 1970s, many records connect their 50th anniversary to a 1974/1975 foundation.
Our club was awarded Mayo Club of the Year, 2025 by the Mayo League at an awards ceremony in March, 2026. This was due to the significant development of our facilities and our consistent, and persistent, efforts to achieve greatness through inclusivity and team sports. Our sporting prowess and significant on field achievements were spotlighted on the night.

Our Honorary Presiden, and Child Welfare Officer, Anthony McDonnell was named a recipient of the 2024 Henry Downes Service to Football Award by the Mayo Football League. A cornerstone of the club since 1974, he was recognized for his lifelong dedication to coaching, administration, and community engagement.

  • Significance: Recognised for tireless work since the club's inception in 1975, covering eras from Barcastle and Castlebar United to the current Castlebar Town FC.
